Repetto Ballerina Flats: Traffic Stopper

Brigitte Bardot turns 80 this month, and just like the style icon, the flats she so notably wore are a traffic stopper and the perfect comfortable shoe to trot around town in.

Responsible from taking French footwear brand Repetto from the dance studio to the silver screen, Bardot’s collaboration with the company began in 1956 when Bardot, a dancer herself, asked Rose Repetto to design flats as supple and comfortable as true ballet slippers. Repetto, who created her first ballet shoes on the advice of her son—dancer and choreographer Roland Petit—delivered. Thus, “Cendrillion” made its debut—comfortable, but also chic and sexy, a reflection of Bardot’s glamorous style that continues to inspire to this day. The link between Bardot and Repetto was further enhanced when she wore “Cendrillion” ballerina flats in the 1956 film directed by Roger Vadim, “And God Created Women.”

Repetto ballerina flats made in France, $295, available at www.saksfifthavenue.com.
